That's interesting too. Slot pads with an overlay. You must've taken a ride on a UFO perhaps..spacey ideas...?greetings from the Astral plane..
?
I must admit I tried the Nord bars at GC many times but it just felt clumsy for me. My thumb felt neglected..Some aliens are said to have 6 fingers but most of the ones we see have only 3.. oops I dropped my aluminum hat...
?
?I just got another thought, hologram bars....ooooohhhhhh....enter Rod Serling...I play Fred MacMurray's son, one of three..
?
Laurens had no clue what was to become of his invention. He could not predict Don Leslie and fought him his entire life. Although I love Laurens' contribution, I love Don's as much if not a little more?but frankly I can't really?separate the two. One without the other...nahhhh..
?
Sorry Laurens. Hope you and Don are having fun up there..they Melvin-ed me...
?
WIll we ever know what made Laurens choose drawbars?
?
I know for myself, the moment I saw drawbars on an organ and I had seen quite a few different models and brands, it just clicked and felt intuitive. Like "this guy has it going on.." Even the Vox Continental had "the" look compared to the tab laden Farfisa' s and Fender Contempo which is weird because Fender owned Leslie when the Contempo was put out yet they chose tabs instead of drawbars...I know, Hammond and Leslie were still not Suzuki?corporate takeovers back then..
?
The only reason I got a Contempo was because it had the 5 1/3 tab...
?
Only the Super Continental had the 5 1/3 and hard to find..expensive too.
?
What was life without a 5 1/3?

That would be true, at first, but given time the positions of the drawbar slot pads would be known and could be operated without even looking. Long time Hammond players can manipulate the drawbars without looking.
What I was suggesting as an addition to the Nord C2 isn't a screen, but, simply a transparent touch overlay on top of each of the existing bar graph leds. An actual display screen would be too expensive for just this application.
The leds shining through the transparent overlay would show the current drawbar positions to the player. One would simply place the fingers on the slot pads at the postitions desired and the lights and harmonics would move there. It should be possible to do this as quickly as one could operate a front rail Lesie switch and move on with playing. This could also duplicate the effect of having real key presets like a B3.
It could enable effects that simply can't be done now because of the time required to move physical drawbars. Musicians are resourceful people - give them something new and they will find ways to use it that the designer couldn't imagine.
I'm certain that "squabbling" wasn't anticipated by Lauren Hammond.
Musicians are the most creative people in the world.
