Subject:Ventilator w/ Speakeasy preamp/volume pedal

hey guys. I've been playing with my NE2 thru the vent for a few months and loving it. Recently I tried plugging in thru the vintage tube preamp before the vent and it sounds even better. Only thing is, I can't send much volume thru the vent without overloading it. I can't even turn the output dial on the speakeasy past 8 o'clock which is like just barely pushing any sound. Wondering if anyone else is using a similar setup and dealing with this as well. I just figure it is what it is. It doesn't happen as much when I switch the vent to the "low" setting, but then i can't get that nice distorted growl.

One more question... any recommendations as to where in signal chain goes the volume pedal? right now it's NE2>volume pedal>preamp>vent>K4.

would it be wiser to put the volume pedal after the speakeasy pre?
