Subject:Powered Speakers

QSC K10, or K12.  They are very light (32lbs and 41lbs respectively), small, but sound killer and are 1000watts.  Another great choice is the Yamaha DSR 112; it's slightly larger (47lbs), but is 1300 watts, and it sounds fantastic.  I use the K12 and the DSR all the time, depending on the gig.  These little boxes are dynamite, are shaped to be used as a floor wedge, or can stand up on their own and power the stage.  I recommend a $20 speaker pole, and they will definitely power the room with glorious tone. 
 
These are far cries from that midrangey boxy sound of typical plastic powered speakers (probably because they use wood).
