Subject:Re: OT Privia P3 vs Motif 8 pianos

I found another way to deal with the all in one piano solution.

I found a great deal on a Roland RD300GX. I bought from a gear junkie for
less than the price of a PX 3.

The weight is 35 lbs. but this is a solidly built board.

I really like the feel of the keys. I have had Yamahas in the past and I
notice that the keybed feels a little easier to execute ideas than the Yamaha
stuff ( except for the CP5, if you can afford that).

The piano sound ( Roland Superior Grand) is also good, but be careful
because there are A LOT of EQ parameters on this that can get in the way. It has
a lot of flexibility in its keyboard touch settings for example, but these
can greatly effect the tone. So you have to be careful not to over tweak,
and the piano can sound very nice.

The things that really sold me on the RD300GX were the electric pianos. It
has a very good Rhodes and Wurli. There are variety of effects that can be
added to these, like the same kind of panning tremolo like you can get on
the Motif, or vibrato for the Wurlie. I like the Wurlie on the Roland much
better than I did on the Motif ES , and probably as much as on the Electro.

Right now there seem to be a lot of good deals on these. Roland just came
out with a new RD700NX, but that is going to be heavy. I like the new Yamaha
CP5 and CP50, but this Roland is pretty nice too - especially if you can
get a great price.
