Subject:Re: NUMA organ
The Numa is a notch (or two) above any clone that I've owned (XK-3, Nord C1, Nord E3). The action is very fast and feels similar to my C1. The high end is very smooth (not screechy or harsh).
I'm more inclined to compare it to the vintage hammonds that I've owned (B3/C3/BC/A102 etc.) than the other clones I've had for a couple of reasons. First, the sound compares more closely to them than to the clones. Second, like the vintage machines, some of the paramaters are pretty much set and there's not much you can do to change them. For instance, the vibrato sounds just like the vibrato that was on a 1958 B3 that I owned, which is considerably different than the vibrato on my A102 (smoother and more subtle). The vibrato on the Nord C1 & E3 is modeled after the A100. The key click is spot on and the percussion is excellent.
The internal sym is excellent and if I didn't already own a Vent, I would probably not feel compelled to buy one. The biggest plus the Vent has is that it's 'tweakable', and the internal sym isn't.
The Numa in general is not as 'tweakable' as the other clones on the market, which could frustrate a lot of people who have grown attached to 'hybrid' clone sounds (which can actually be pretty cool), but if a 1958 B3 is your idea of the 'ideal' Hammond sound, you will love it.
