Subject:Re: acoustic vrs. digital pianos OT!

As a piano tuner of 30+ years, it's the rare piano that I come across where I think to myself "wow, I'd rather play this than my Kurzweil PC3X". About 10% of the pianos out there in the field have superior tone and especially touch to what I consistently get on a daily basis. The rest? Well let's just say that I wouldn't pluck equal money down for them.

A spinet will never give you a good touch, it's been designed out of the system. The only upright that consistently plays and sounds good to my ear and hands are Yamaha, Kawaii, and Charles Walter pianos. And they need to be 44" tall or taller. Anything less is a not-so-funny joke.

It sounds funny, but I keep on telling people that I'd have to spend upwards of $50,000 to get a new piano better than the digital I'm currently playing. Yes, you can find them for half that price in the used market, though I've yet to see anything less than $20,000 that beats out my humble Kurzweil.

I'm eternally grateful to see that Nord has (finally) stepped up to the plate and corrected their absolutely horrible acoustic pianos. That and their harpsichords make me want to invest in a new red instrument. :)

Opinionated? Well, that's what you were asking for innit?
