Subject:Re: acoustic vrs. digital pianos OT!
If the piano is nicely rebuilt then I imagine it has new strings, felts, and
hammers. If the pinblock is in good shape (tight) and soundboard ok then I
can't imagine any problems for many years to come. I'd recommend some sort
of humidity control, it will need to be tuned a few times a year, and kept
away from your radiators and cold drafts if possible. Spinets can be tricky
to regulate and repair due to the physical setup of the action, but if it's
been recently rebuilt and is playing well it's probably in decent
regulation.
I'd double-check about the strings, felts, and hammers. Old hammers can
cause a harsh and tinny sound. Old strings can sound kind of dull,
especially in the bass, and they make me nervous when I have to tune
them...they can break and are no fun to replace.
If it's possible, have an independent tech look it over. He/she might
charge you as much as $100 for the time, but it could save you a lot of
aggravation in the future.
