Subject:Re: Nord Electro 2 and 3 / differences and impressions
I have to agree with what Brian said. I, too, thought I'd really hate
the E3's method of calling up presets, but I've learned to work around
it to a reasonably satisfying degree. How well? I use it -- through
and Event Processor -- to call up patches on my Access Virus TI KB! At
least, with the A/B buttons, it's possible to pair a piano sound with an
organ sound, or two piano/organ sounds. And there's always the Live
button. Coupled with the organ presets, it's fairly easy to get sounds
live. I thought I was going to find myself saying, "Hang on, guys.
Give me a minute to get my sounds," but I'm really not doing that much.
90% of my organ tone changes are related to drawbar ... er, drawBUTTON
... settings, vibrato on/off, and percussion on/off. All of that can be
accomplished with one good organ base point on the Live button, and the
presets.
Would a bank/patch system be better? Sure. But a dedicated keypad
would be *way* better than that. And 48 presets would be about 5-10
short of what I need to handle organ, piano, EP, Clav, etc. on an
average gig -- using a one-sound-per-preset method. Instead, the E3 has
forced me to go back to what I used to do in the glory days: turn knobs
and push buttons.
