I think Steve was basically just saying that (to him) our needs are a
lot more important than the Pros who more than likely already have
whatever they want/need. Maybe it doesn't make the best marketing
sense, but making quality instruments doesn't always need to be about
expanding your bottom line. A good instrument will bring out the good
players -- let's see what Joey is playing a few years from now...
My comment about the Stick has more to do with the fact that although
Emmet Chapman has slowly expanded their operation over the past 40
years, they are still low volume and apparently still in business and
continuing to improve and expand their product line. You *still*
can't purchase one on their website, let alone try before you buy.
You have to email or call them, and often his wife gets right back to
you. It took Tony Levin years to get any respect for his Stick
playing, and there are hundreds of other pro Stick bands you never
hear about (djesben out of DC comes to mind). Most people find out
about the Stick before they know who Tony Levin is -- but he's
definitely an icon for them now! -pc
