Subject:Re: Electro 2 & Vent...my thoughts
Hi Chuck,
You should find the combination of the C2 and Vent to be exceptionally
good. My NE3 has the C1 Hammond emulation, and the pair sound great.
My understanding is that the C2 vs. C1 is mostly pipe organ changes, and
one new Leslie model, so your C2 should sound at least as good as my
'C1' (NE3) with the Vent. And the newer Nord gear (C2, NE3, Stage EX)
all have the hotter outputs.
That said though, I think the folks on this list and others sometimes
get to lost in the trees to see the forest. As David said, every
Hammond sounds a little different, as does each Leslie. In fact, I've
played a couple of Hammonds recently that I *didn't* like as much as my
BX3 or NE3. (They probably needed some TLC.) Guitarists fall into this
trap all the time, buying all kinds of gear to sound like their
influences. Guess what? Eric Clapton doesn't sound the same every
night, on different stages, with different guitars and amps. And he
certainly doesn't sound like a recording of a certain Strat, through a
certain amp, mic'ed into a mixing board, then mastered, EQ'ed, etc.
before being transferred to a CD. Neither does Benmont Tench, or Felix
Cavelliere, or Joey DeFrancesco. They each have a signature sound,
though, and they tend to compensate for the small stuff.
If the basic sound of your rig is good, and you have the chops, I
wouldn't worry too much about the tiny details.
Regards,
-BW
