Cables, they don't all sound the same. Spending money on a cable may be
a good thing, if it happens to enhance your sound for some reason and
it may be on only one specific piece of gear in a particular app and
just by luck. Cheap cables can sound good on some apps as well, except
sometimes you hear the noise when the cable gets stepped on going
through the shielding. If you like the sound, don't step on the cable
while you're playing. Basically there is no guarantee that money equals
better sound when it comes to cables. The only real way you're going to
get the cable issue resolved is if you spend money on different cables
and you find something that suits your ears. Your equipment won't be
someone else's rig and so the same cable will produce different
results. Then the issue of reliability is another matter if you gig.
But then what do you do with all the other cables you bought? Spend
time and energy selling them on ebay or keep them as spares.

Boy, did you open a can of worms!

I believe that mid level cables are fine. Monster cables or similar are
really not worth it.
