So they used a Speakeasy preamp during this? I wonder what the speakers
were. That can make a huge difference.... high speaker crossover points
really kill the tone in a lot of clones.

They seemed to have less bad things to say about the Roland sound than many
of them. Chester gives favorable points to the Roland vs. the Nord with
chorus off / leslie on. Not surprising.... I have always thought that the
Roland has a relatively decent sim. Booket T. also speaks favorably about the
Roland percussion. vs. some of the others.

Too bad that there were no opinions on the straight C3 chorus vibrato on
the Roland. I still think that it is among the best.

Chester also notes that on the Korg the C2 and C3 chorus don't sound too
much different. I haven't seen a Korg for awhile but I played one in
Seattle once and the chorus vibrato sounded strange on the version I played.

They sure seem to hack up the Hammond Suzuki and Ventura though. I
certainly have heard the Ventura sound better on some of the you tube clips. I
still would like to hear a demo of the Ventura C-3 chorus vibrato with no
leslie sim on. Most of what I have heard on You Tube has been rock oriented
tones out of the Ventura, which most if not all of the clones can do well.

The wild card still seems to be the Key B or Studiologic NUMA out of Italy
, or whatever it is ( maybe?) going to come out as . The Key B I heard at
NAMM still seems to be one to beat. Fantastic chorus and leslie sim on these.

For the most part I would have liked to have seen the clones evaluated with
the leslie sims OFF. The sims are the weal link on most of these clones. I
would have liked to have seen them evaluated with straight organ tones
alone or perhaps have them all run through a leslie. Then I think you would
have a more fair comparison.
