Subject:Re: Casio WK3300: opinions / YES !!!!!! ( Tone on a budget)
I don't have the 3000 series Casio, but I do have a 5 octave 691 which I go
because it is easier to cart around. The 691 has the same sound engine as
the 3000 series.
I bought a Yamaha Motif 7 at around the same time . I wound up using the
Casio about 10 times more until I just about wore it out . Why?
The Casio has a pretty decent acoustic bass sound and is easily
programmable for split function. It also works well as a backup controller for my
VK8m.
I agree - great reed sounds - Better than the original Motif in my opinion.
The flute sound is particularly inspirng....... the saxophones are also
pretty impressive
The Vibes and acoustic bass split is very nice.
I also like the tremelo piano sound. Every single tone is sweet in this
patch. Great with the acoustic bass split. VERY musical.
As far as the organ, I have only been able to get one sound I like, but it
is a killer. It is the 808000000 ( on Casio, more like 302000000 ) which is
basically the lower manual setting for jazz on most Hammonds. I do not use
the lesie sim or the percussion. The percussion is a little too loud for
my taste. A shame after all this keyboard is able to do.
Instead of the leslie sim I use the Stereo Phaser is the DSP effects
section. I turn the manual setting to "0" ( Manual is a category is the DSP
settings) and this thing has a PHENONMENAL chorale sound. Also the bass
response is quite startling.
I take my Casio just about everywhere and I have put in some serious
practice on this thing. The newer Casios just do not have the tweakability of
this series . Too bad.
There are many, many digital keyboards that I can't even get 4 decent
sounds out of - including the 3000 dollar list Yamaha Nocturne N 100 I just
picked up ( The Nocturne has one great acoustic piano sound and a wonderful
weighted action though). The Nocturne EP and organ are just PATHETIC.
Why is it that a 200 dollar toy should have so much better EP's and organs
that a 3000 dollar Yamaha? Please Yamaha, tell me why this is so.
I really want to get a 3000 series.... does anyone want to get rid of one?
