Subject:Re:Ventilator up for competition?
" It's a while since I had my 145, but the Ventilator totally nails the sound that I remember. Not only does it capture the rotation, it captures the rise and fall to perfection and throws in a really convincing tube amp; it also changes the tone appropriately, capturing the horn resonance and wooden cabinet resonance."
Thomas, i have a 145 Leslie sat at home running off a Speakeasy pre.
I've a/b'd the Ventilator against it.
The only real difference in tone that i can hear is that the 145 is somehow a little more creamy and smooth on tremelo, but this difference would be lost on a stage i'm sure. On chorale, they are virtually indistinguishable to my ears at least. The ventilator has the advantage that i can make it grind and growl at a sensible volume. It also has the advantage that its sound is that of a mic'd leslie, so you can change the effect quite dramatically by adjusting the mic placement. You can do that on most sims i know, but on the ventilator it actually sounds realistic. I'm finding that i'm favouring using the Ventilator over the real deal even at home, because i can quickly get it to sound how i want it just by dialling it in.
