Subject:RE: Ventilator - Poor design? Another view...
I think the perception here is the result of the fact that it won't play
well with a normal off the shelf 2 button TRS (IE, Marshall Style)
footswitch. From what I can see in the manual one of those types of
switches would result in one button turning slow on and off, and one button
turning fast on and off (And who knows what happens if they are both on at
once, a condition that according to the schematic in the manual is
impossible, and therefore a "disallowed state" - I do fully expect that they
built so no harm would come, presumably one speed will take dominance is
all)
In order for such a 2 button footswitch to work "correctly" (which also
seems to be a matter of debate), it needs to be custom wired.
I must confess that from a design standpoint, I think I'd have opted to have
the TRS 1/4" jack wired for the HS half-moon switch just like it is now, and
then the buttons on the box doing Slow/Stop and Fast/Slow (like the old
Combo Preamps) and then had 1 more mono 1/4" for an optional bypass switch.
But then I *AM* mired in the traditions of the old Combo Preamp II, III, IV,
etc.
Cheers!
