Subject:Re: Ventilator arrived
Got mine today and plugged my E3 into it. First impression: this thing sucks! It didn't sound much better than the internal sym on my E3. Then I reset all of the tone controls (which were set to get a good sound with the internal sym on the E3) and now it rocks! I kept going back and forth between the E3/Ventilator and my C1/145 and my '59 B3/22H 'till I got it dialed in.
The Ventilator is a much better (as it should be) sym than the E3 sym, which is IMO the best 'internal' sym on the market. The unit sounds very 'natural' and unprocessed (as in phasey & electronic). The 'drive' sounds so good it's hard to believe there are no 6L6s in there being overdriven. The overall frequency response is also excellent.
Is it as good as a 'real' 122? No. But then again it doesn't cost $2,000+, doesn't weigh over 100 lbs and doesn't require 3 mics.
Will I be getting rid of my Leslies? No, but I won't be using them except on organ trio gigs anymore.
