My first attempt at a Hammond sound (back in 1981) was a Casio CT-202 through an ElectroHarmonix Small Clone chorus pedal! I would wind the speed control up and down by hand to simulate a Leslie changing speed. Actually, "Pipe Organ 2" on the Casio was a pretty good mellow, dry Hammond sound without percussion. I eventually added a Casio CZ-101 (attached to the 202 with Velcro!) for solos and anything that needed a brighter sound or percussion.

Subject: [CWSG] First clones?
Hi,
My first clone was a 1969, Farfisa Fast 5 ( portable single keyboard) through a rotary speaker ( Vibratone labeled by Leslie , Pasadena CA) btw re-marketed by Farfisa, Italy.
It came with a starionary 12" amp that mounted on top of the rotary unit having rails in the cabinet to lock it.
The brochure mentioned the words 'space sound'
My first serious clone were a Yamaha BK-20 and a year after a Yamaha D-80 both with upper/lower keyboards and internal amp/rotor ( w/o treble horn).
The D80 model actually had a small 2nd upper keyboard with 'portamento' to being able to play 'violin and jazz guitar' suprprisingly good for those times (later 70's) Carried built-in rythms that made highly realistic unless if compared with Lowrey, Kimball, etc.
My first 'modeled sound' clone was a VOCE microB-II.
Best,
Rafael
