Yes, I can think of someone who would admit spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars and admitting it wasn't worth it. TonySounds.

Tony has bought more gear and either sold it or returned it. (How many Nord Stages have you sold Tony??)

I have been amazed at his willingness to spend money to try something and then sell it for less than he paid. He's even bought the same thing several times to try it and then returned it or sold it.

I'm not nominating Saint Tony, but I don't think the analogy is quite as accurate as it may be at first blush.
