Hi Everyone,

Noticed about Norm's pointing about Mackie's VLZ series being better for stage than for recording, regarding noise factor.

That's is a value tip !

These days have the choice to buy at close stores brands like Alesis, Yamaha, (i.e. MG series) , Behringer , Alto , Soundcraft , Tapco or Mackie VLZ series,

It will be for mix of instruments a vocals to be recorded mainly with AKG large diaphragm as small 'pencil' ones alogn with Akg and A-Technica ones to cope with higher SPL factor (sound pressure level) on instrument's channels.

Hope to get hints from you about which would be those brand/models featuring less noise and still being considered a 'budget concious' purchase. My needs are 12 or 16 ch., 2 subs, monitoring, inserts and FX.

I've bought in the past at MFriend but a refund for a broken item when send overseas after, it's a big hassle so I'll go to local shops in Buenos Aires (.AR) and it carries more limited choices and hefty tags.

On the PC side have an E-MU Proteus X with DSP thru a 0404 PCI card with a limited bunch of I/O wiring.

Thanks in advance

Rafael

Yes, Mackie did good all these years. I still have a 6 channel Tapco
from back then as well as a Mackie SR24-4.

The Tapcos looked like this:

Some DJ's collect mixers. Guess they all have distinct tones like
guitar pedals.

I also used and still have a Boss KM60 keyboard mixer which had channel
sends and is rackmountable.

Another company that was around then was Biamp. They are still in
business and make 1-space rackmount mixers.

TAPCO!! Hometown stuff!! It was the standard here in Seattle in the
70's.
Mackie still makes a Tapco line as their budget stuff.
