Subject:Re: Anyone else into The Stranglers/Dave Greenfield?
Hi Simon, i've always been a fan of Greendfield. He's a hugely under-rated and largely unrecognised master.. I saw them live a few times in the early 80's and he is phenomenal. He somehow found a way to fuse a classical piano and boogaloo style that Keith Emerson would have been respectful of, with the amphetamine speed, anger and energy of the early UK punk sound but no one really noticed, so he escaped the accusations of being a boring old prog dinosaur. I do remember when the Stranglers first arrived on the UK scene, that people made the Manzarek comparisons, but the Doors were always 'cool' with the punk scene, so that was ok. Great band, terrific keyboard player.
