I think it will just revert to the default settings at power up and not hold any changes when you power off. Changes you make while playing will stay until you power off. You could reload a setup from a CF Card each time you power on. I don't know what the likelyhood of a dead battery leaking over time is but I think that would be a good reason to change it.

The cover over the PC board in the XK-3c was modified so it doesn't have to be moved to change the battery.
