Garth played a Lowrey Festival on The Band's earlier classic recordings. Some other
well-known bands made use of Lowreys. The sustain organ sound which opens The
Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is a Lowrey DSO Heritage played by Paul
McCartney. Pete Townshend used a Lowrey Berkshire Deluxe TBO-1 on "Won't Get
Fooled Again", "Baba O'Riley" and possibly other Who songs. The Animals' Dave
Rowberry played a Lowrey (he couldn't remember which model when I asked him
about it several years ago) on a few of their hits such as "We Gotta Get Out of
this Place", "Don't Bring Me Down", and "See See Rider". The Doors' Ray Manzarek
used a Gibson/Kalamazoo, which is very similar to a Lowrey, on "Unknown
Soldier", "Not to Touch the Earth", "Waiting for the Sun", "Touch Me", and
"L'America". ? and the Mysterians' "96 Tears" was allegedly recorded with a
Lowrey though they usually used a Vox Continental. Mike Ratledge did some pretty serious playing on a Lowrey spinet with Soft Machine beginning around 1966.
