Subject:Re: Level5
The review you saw may have been mine. I've had mine for at least a year now, and I'm extremely happy with it.
Actually what I have is a two-piece Leslie-style system built by BT, incorporating their Level 5 amp. It's the best sounding Leslie I've owned. I have an A100 and a 147 in my studio, and a 145 I used to gig with, but I use the Level 5/C1 for both live AND recording now. The Level 5's amp/preamp is dead quiet, has all the fullness of tone of the vintage stock, and gives me more gain and tone shaping control.
You can buy just the amp of course. You'll have to change out your drivers, because the output is 350 watts. And you should probably reinforce your cabinet too to prevent rattling induced by the higher SPL.
The fact that the amp slips right into a stock Leslie amp space - all the lock down hardware matches - and that the preamp is built into the amp - are both HUGE advantages that are unique to the Level 5, as far as I can tell. There's no need to chain together multiple components, which is what I was doing prior to buying this.
I'm happy to answer specific questions if you have any.
