If you have firewire input on your laptop I would go with a firewire interface rather than USB. A real price performer is the Yamaha GO46 for use with a laptop mobile recording setup. The preamps are very clean and the unit is can be obtained inexpensively. A Presonus firebox would also be a reasonable choice. Good luck.
