Make sure the menu setting for expression is set to the expression pedal and not MIDI or the other setting. IIRC it is in the control page. Also, if it is set for that you should see the value change in the expression monitor on that page or at least in that same menu branch. If it doesn't change when the pedal moves, look into the underside of the pedal where the light emitter/receiver with the black coated piece of plastic with the V shaped white area between them to verify that the bulb is working.
