Subject:XK-1

After a few years of exploring other options for my live organ sound, I decided to go back to using a dedicated clonewheel keyboard. So I now have an XK-1. I used it last night on a classic rock gig, and so far I'm quite happy with the results. Back in '01 I had an XK-2, but the XK-1 is an entirely different animal. Got several positive comments from my bandmates, along with the sound guy. This 'board has got a great 'in your face' sound; plus, it's very cool to have waterfall keys again.

Anyway... I could use some guidance from those of you use, have used, or are familiar with the XK-1. One reason I choose the XK-1 is its' controller capabilities (especially pitch and mod wheel, remote program change, etc.) - as I sometimes need to control a Motif XS Rack from my second tier keyboard. From reading through the manual while prepping for last night's gig, it appears that the only way to control external volume is to use the expression pedal input and apply it to CC# 11 in the External Control section. I would prefer to adjust MIDI volume by hand - either with a slider or pot. Do any of you know of a volume controller that plugs into a volume/expression jack, but controls volume by slider/pot, rather than by foot pedal ? I could use an in-line MIDI control interface, but a Novation Zero SL, or Evolution UC-33 would be overkill in this situation.
Also, any direction as far as sites/forums that offer user tips for the XK-1 would be great...

Thanks,

Allan
