I believe that the song that you are referring to is "Lucy In Disguise...With Glasses" By John Fred and his Playboy Band...it featured a great hook using the percussion on a Hammond console of some sort. I hope that helps you...

I'm trying to find the name of a top forty song from, I believe, the mid- late 70's. The weird thing is that I can't recall the melody of the verse or chorus, only the three note hook at the end of the chorus - sung by the lead singer and doubled on trumpet. The tempo is a fast 4, about 130-140 bpm; it's a light, poppy kind of tune. Almost sounds like it has a slight Latin influence, but it's definitely 70's pop (the groove is a little like "Put Your Hand In Hand..." as performed by Glen Campbell). The three note riff/hook comes in at the very end of the chorus: it's a major triad played for the top down (5-3-1), and the three notes fall on 4, the 'and' of 4, then the 'and' of 1 in the next measure. Can't recall the words of that phrase, but it almost sounded like the male lead vocalist was singing: "...with dia-monds".

I ask my bandmates last night if they could figure this one out: One of them sort of remembered the song, but, like me, could recall the name or the artist.
