Well explained. I hated the rachet drawbars on my B-2 for precisely those
reasons - you couldn't do subtle shadings by "playing the drawbars" because
they would cut out if you looked at them wrong.

To the previous poster who said they had rachet drawbars on their late 60's
B-3 - either those were the normal "smooth" drawbars, all of which did in
fact make a clicking noise when used, or your organ wasn't stock.

For those interested in the difference - Hammond removed the mechanical
detent and added a second contact behind the first, connected by a 1 ohm
resistance wire. This meant that at least 1 of those contacts was always in
a mechanical and electrical connection with the drawbar busses when being
moved.
