Subject:OT:Scary Landings (was:Buffalo NY Plane Crash)

KSAN rwy 27... That's very different though, as even though it's low over
the city, it's straight. Imagine that approach but at the very end you make
a fairly hard right turn and then touchdown.

Trouble with Kai Tak was that it was a left over, originally built by the
French as I recall, when runways were much shorter. It was once an X shaped
2 runway Aerodrome. Then they just kept expanding it. What amazes me is
that they took until the 1990's to replace it with the new one where it
could have proper clearances for today's much larger/faster planes...
