Hey Goff and everyone,

Thanks for pointing about Hiwatt being alive.

Seems that the whole view and endorsees are on HIWATT.CO.UK

When using hi-gain tube amps , a factor to be considered is attenuation of sound pressure level (SPL) thru dummy load devices.

Coping sucessfully with SPL will improve for sure a good relationship with any next door neighbours :)

Actually I prefer this schema:

Tube preamp ==> EQ ===> power with MosFET output transistors.

Having too much tube power will cause hidden costs as power soak (thru dummy load) is usually not cheap stuff , unless if using the ones featuring reactive charge (as opposite to resistive charge) , i.e. certain models of TedWeberVST (now TedWeber)

Of my knowledge, there are attenuators also from DRZamps or THDelectronics.

Best,

Rafael

The troubles began when going beyond 100W rms.

Remember now defunct brands as Sunn, Hiwatt , etc.

Those requirements were unpractical in terms of amp size and dissipation issues.

Still there is a lot to improve output power through speaker efficiency even using lower specs power on tube amps.
