Subject:RE: BX3 / Continental
Some things to keep in mind if you aren't aware.
Continentals had 3 unison drawbars and 1 mixture. It was (pitch wise only)
like pulling the 1st, 3rd, and 4th drawbars (IE 16' 8' and 4') while the
mixture was 3 notes at once, more or less like the top 3 mutation drawbars
(2 2/3, 1 3/5, and 1 1/3) though not exactly as there were several "fold
backs" in the mixture.
Now, while those drawbars controlled pitch, there were 2 more for the tone
color. One "Flute" and one "Complex" The flute is more or less a sine wave
but very dull, the complex is a square waveform (that's where the signature
sound came from mostly)
And of course it had vibrato, one speed, one depth, on or off that's it.
Thought this might help your quest to imitate it if you'd never played and
actual Vox before. BTW forget a temptation to pick one up - at this age
they drop dead if you cut a loud fart - I'd only recommend the real deal to
a well heeled collector who wants to keep in in their studio ONLY.
Cheers!
