Legal software usually got with bundles are ALSO sensitive to attacks, virus, malware and malfunctioning.

It already happened to me.

BTW I'm using Vista Home Basic (with network capabilities even WiFi) bundled with my notebook bought two months ago.

Came with all the bells and whistles software from HP (photo cataloguing, std DVD player, DVD with LightScribe printing, backup utilities, etc. etc.)

Came with nVidia graphicss and AMD microprocessor of 64 bits (needed for future 64 bit applications)

As opposite the Vista Starter version don't carry many features for networking.

Has many security features what it's good but when Vista Service Pack #1 was offered for downloading I didn't doubted to do it.

Wasn't a good thing as saddly after installing it I realized that had lose the search function when right-clicking on pulldowsn menues.

Obviously I pressed the 'recovery button' to get things back again without
inserting any media, just pressing 'system recovery' and it came again, so it's adviceable to have a regular backup to avoid have missing files as it brings a fresh system installation, without the need of any supplied CD or DVD.

I always thought that Vista wasn't still mature as XP is, but let me say that I can cope with it as long enjoying the software came bundled with it.

I have Microsoft Works to open Office files , or better yet to manage more
complex files I've downloaded www.OpenOffice.org , an Office compatible OpenSource software from Sun (the JAVA behind company) . That let me many hundreds bucks being saved replacing a std. Office package.

Finally, I'd say that buy RAM within the 2/4 GiBytes range for better performance, rather than putting they eye in how many 'cores' has the processor or their speed measured in Mhz more if your
primary focus is music rather than video.
