Subject:Re: Looking for Feedback on good speaker amp for Nord C1
I hate to use a "dirty word" in here, but I was in the same shape,
dragging my 50C leslie out of the studio and up a set of bilco stairs
everytime I wanted to play was too much. My back hurt for three days
afterwards. I was also broke, so in spite of past experience with the
company's noisy mixers, and in spite of some people that heard second
hand that the things blew easily, I parted with the 320$ and got a
single Behringer B215A to use with my Korg CX3. I have to cut the bass
hard, and nock the highs up a wee bit on the amp control, but it
actually cuts through nicely, gets pretty loud, and doesn't have the
"honky" sound of the keyboard specific amps I tried. I've used this at
blues jams, and unless the jam really gets out of hand it keeps loud
enough and seems to be louder than a friends Peavy KB5, and again,
much less harsh sounding. ANd I was warned about blowing the thing,
but so far I've used it pretty hard, and nothing seems to affect it. I
do watch the Peak LED pretty closely though, and make sure it doesn't
blink much.
I'm getting another one to go "Stereo" when I feel like lugging
more gear (and sounding better) but for now, I just back the mics away
in the leslie sim, and use it mono.
I've also tried the mackie with the 15, and it's definitely better
sounding, but was about twice as much. I'm definitely a fan of the
self powered PA speakers over the Keys amps though. But you ARE
DEFINITELY going to miss the warmth of your leslie.
