The sound passes through the tube preamp, then the effects loop, then
the expression pedal/circuit and into the effects: EQ ->Leslie ->
reverb in the XK-3. In the XK-3c it is similar: -> preamp -> Effects
Loop -> Expression -> Tone Control & EQ -> Digital Leslie -> Reverb
(or Reverb -> Digital Leslie).
In both, you can have the overdrive constant no matter the volume or
have the overdrive increase as the volume increases. Also, the
expression doesn't just change the volume it also changes the tone as
the volume changes (similar to how the loudness circuit works in a
home stereo). This is adjustable in both the XK-3 and '3c.
What you are doing seems to work in a manner similar to the way the
tone control works in a B3 and in the XK-3c. It curves the higher
frequencies down so that the higher the frequency the more it is cut.
This starts at 1kHz. In the '3c, this circuit can also be used to
raise the higher frequencies a little as well. The tone control is in
addition to the EQ. The high frequency eq in the XK-3 and '3c is
within the organ's normal frequency range and raises/lowers the
frequencies in its band equally (at least from what I can tell).
Something that may produce a similar result is to use an outboard eq
that has a high band above 10kHz. This band is above the organ's
highest frequencies. By turning it down it pulls the higher organ
frequencies down in a manner similar to the tone control.
