Subject:Re: Leslie 3300 - do I have a blown / problem driver?
Could be, but there are some other things you could check. You can stop the
horn and hold the E, then verify that something in/on/near the cabinet is
not resonating sympathetically. You could remove the back and lower the
ferro fluid driver, then examine the throat to see whether a dead bug or
something is rattling in there. You can do the same check on the rotating
horn throat. When you re-assemble the driver, you can make sure that all
the hardware is screwed on tight. You can move the middle, treble, volume,
horn level and sub volume controls to see whether you can affect the
distortion-- indicating a dirty pot. You can turn the Tube Drive control to
the TUBE OFF position and if the distortion goes away, investigate a new
12Ax7.
