Subject:Re: VK8m/ART preamp TPS II clips - more info please
First off, not to confuse anyone, the ART TPS II does not have any
tone controls on it (it is essentially a mic preamp) But I run it
thru an EQ module (on my DEQ2496) carefully tuned before it hits the
2nd "overdrive" tube stage on the ART... Then after that overdrive
stage I run it into the 2nd EQ module on the DEQ for final tone
shaping then out to my (answer to your next question) Leslie 2101.
The Art and the DEQ combined with strategic signal routing gives me
several effects blocks to get a better preamp/expression into/"power
amp" simulation effects that the VK8m (and most other clones) doesn't.
Now I have:
-decent upper tonewheel limiting "loudness robbing" effect
-pre-expression tube preamp effect (warms up the tone, and gives a
subtle compression and shimmer in the highest frequencies)
-smoother expression pedal control (via an optical non-linear tapering
volume pedal)
-decent "power amp" drive effect
-complete tone-shaping control to route to any modern rotary cab, in
my case a Leslie 2101
I'm really starting to like this setup, and its only a few pieces with
no walwarts and tons of cables...
