Subject:Re: loud buzz in 122

Here's what I came up with regarding the "buzz" or "hum". I had the same problem with my Leslie 145 but not my 122. The reason being the difference in the amps. I completely eliminated any noise (hum) by running seperate ground lifts on the SE and my XK-3. Both were run into the same power strip, and then I put a ground lift on the end of the power strip. No...you won't shock yourself if your house/studio/gig is properly grounded. I can't explain it beyond that, but that's what it took for me.

hey everyone .... I just want to let y'all know that it is not the preamp. I turn the output volume to the preamp all the way down and the buzz is still about 60-65dB's .... unchanged from when the output volume is all the way up. I took the 142 to a tech today and he powered it up himself and it is only coming from the amp. He believes one of the 6550's might be bad but he'll check and let me know by late tomorrow. The preamp is very rugged ... I've dropped it, broken switches, shorted it out, and was able to open it up and rig it myself and it still works beautifully. So, rest assured, it isnt the preamp ..... I love my speakeasy! Thanks for all the help though ...

To Bo and others:

I have been having the very same problem with my Speakeasy preamp as
well. I have tried connecting the Leslie to various Leslies and the buzz
is present in all of them so we can rule out the possibility that this
might be a problem with Bo's Leslie. The buzz remains the same
regardless of how high or low the preamp's gain is set. Adjusting the
bass and treble knobs does seem to make a slight different but does not
completely remove the buzz. I have also tried using ground lifts and hum
filters without any success. Unplugging the instrument does not change
anything either.

I have sent in my preamp a couple of times, not for this specific issue,
but for other modifications. However, they do update the preamp to their
current specs any time a preamp is sent in for repair or modification.
The last time I sent mine in, whatever they did, it did seem to lessen
the amount buzz that comes through the Leslie, however, nothing has yet
to completely remove it. I'm wondering, could this be because I have a
version 1 preamp as opposed to a version 2? (S#: 400310)
