Here Here..I never saw the DC5, I did see the Beatles. My sentiments
also on the name of the band. But to be fair to Dave he had a hand in
writing the songs and is credited for having produced the band. Any
recording needs a producer and they get paid handsomely for adding
their touch to any recording that sticks to the wall. But it was weird
that it was named after him. Maybe the name sounded better at the time
and if Dave was the captain of the ship...well.... Back then, the songs
burst out of the radio and most people didn't care on a conscious level
why a band had such a name or even who may have fronted the band. In
hindsight, we know, AS MUSICIANS. I have relatives who grew up with
these songs, and they couldn't tell who the members were in most bands
or would even care who wrote the songs.
The song writing, the arrangements and how they were produced and
recorded is the genius behind all this. And that in itself ,
considering these songs were hits, is not easy to come by.
Come mid March 2008, The Dave Clark 5 will be in the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame.
Congratulations Mike!
