I have a professional recording studio (located in Harderwijk, the
Netherlands) and with some tinkering (specially for the speed switching)
I'd probably be able to pull this off. Interfacing the leslie with the
audio equipment, dealing with the wav-files, cd-r's, miking up etc.
would be no problem at all.
There one "But" though: I don't have a real Leslie, but a DYI clone
built with parts from a scrap Solton counterfeit leslie, amped with a
Dynacord Eminent II tube amp and with a self-designed speed switching
circuit (which I'd have to adapt/expand to respond to a pulse on a
track, but that's no big deal).
The thing sure sounds sweet and can roar and growl quite a bit if
desired. But a purist may hear it's not the real thing.
The only real Leslie I have is a 110 (single rotor model, drum rotor
only) amped with the tube amp from a Hammond L100, it may be used as
well but you'd probably miss the horn rotor.
I usually record Leslies with a couple of SM57's and a Sennheiser 602 or
421, but I can also do it with my new Shinybox ribbon mic, with any
regular studio mic or even with large or small diaphragm condensers if
desired (but personally I really prefer dynamic mics on leslies). You
will hear a click in the recorded tracks when the motor speed changes
and you will hear some mechanical noises in silent or quiet parts.
Usually this is no big deal in practice: these noises disappear in the
mix or could be edited out.
Do you happen to have the MIDI files for the tracks too (might help to
make the speed switching easier) or is it just audio? (could still be
done)
I could give it a try for one song and send you the results so you can
see if it works for you.
The studio has an FTP-server, for 1 song uploading/downloading the files
should still be feasible (but cd-r would not be a problem of course)
