Subject:Re: Artists and what they play question!?

Mr. Orante

I mentioned "lists" in my posting so it not really directed at any one list. Since this list is pretty active I thought it would be a good place to start. As someone who enjoys most of the lists and I like reading some of the things people are going though to obtain "their" sound or as I have heard it expressed "their voice."

What I am really trying to understand is why, from time to time, people on the lists seem to be taking their personal opinion as a statement of fact as to "why" someone is using a particular instrument when they have no idea what is going on.

Now as to being a finicky bunch... Is that in the archive? (smile).

We did invite anyone in the Chicago area to the Meet and Greet at Gand Music to try the Diversi Solo Plus and to meet Joey and Pat. Yes at some point Gand will receive their Solos. While I realize that you are very busy, I was sure that someone from this list or one of the other lists, did attend and I don't know why there wasn't any feed back from those who were at Gand. Maybe we should ask on the list for someone that was at the Gand Meet and Greet for their comments.

I do hope that you do get a chance to try the Solo when Gand gets their units.

Keep grinding those tonewheels,
Tom Tuson (NOT TUCSON)

All I can figure is that I’m missing some thread, or this pertains to a discussion on another group/forum??? I’m clueless to what Mr. Tucson is referring to.

However, I’m definitely interested to hear what any Diversi users have to say about their instrument. I think that’s what the original poster was trying to get at. I know myself, there’s nowhere to go hear the Diversi. I have no need for the Motion Sound stuff, but if the Diversi sounds great through that rig, then it stands to reason that it’ll sound killer through my non-rotary rig as well. I’m on board with the Diversi concept: through a non-rotary rig, B4 is my favorite of all the clones I own (Electro, Xk1, and formerly VK7, Cx3 analog, VoceV5). To incite/inspire/instigate me spending $2500+ on a keyboard, I gotta get my hands or ears on it. Since that is a reality that none of us (except Joey D that we know of) seems to have yet, I can speak for the rest of us when I second David and say “if you got it, TELL us about it!!!!”

As you said, we’re a finicky bunch: we want all the tone and playability and don’t seem to stop our search for it. Personally, I want all the tone, all the playability and inspiration in a package I can throw into the back of my Toyota Highlander with the rest of my rig and gig with. That’s why my search hasn’t ended….yet.

So….you Diversi owners out there, post something…clips, reviews, love/hates, wish lists for improvements, anything!!! PLEASE!

In the words of Roger Waters: “Is there anybody out there?”

Without opening a Pandora's box here I want to just make an observation and I really would like to understand something about the comments sometimes made here about what instrument or instruments someone is playing or not playing.

Many times I see many of you talk and even share pictures or videos about your "gig rig" or "studio rig" or "home setup." Most of you have spent a lot of time and money acquiring different instruments, parts and pieces that work for you and what your are "trying" or "have" obtained for your ultimate gear setup. What I don't understand is why so many times when an artist is playing something different be it a clone or a vintage tonewheel organ some of you jump at the chance to snip them. Yet, when many of you are selling off some of your gear to or already have purchase something else it is perfectly ok.

While I realize that for some these changes are because you may have the extra cash to upgrade something but in many cases, and I may be wrong, it's because your trying to add to or change your sound because you are still looking for "that" something extra or your just plain tired of something.

Please understand that I am not speaking on Joey's behalf nor am I defending anyone. I really don't understand why so often there is this on going attitude as to "See!!!!!! He's playing an XYZ! I just know that it's because etc, etc, etc, etc." I always thought that part of playing and performing is stretching your music, changing and evolving. Look at Miles Davis and the different evolutions he went through.

Personally, if I wanted to hear the same thing over and over again I'll put a CD on and put it on repeat mode. Again, I might be wrong but when I go to hear someone live I want to hear something that they have done on a recording but I also want to be surprised by something new that they are doing.

As I stated at the top of this, I do not want to open a Pandora's box and nor do I want to start a flaming session. I just find it interesting that when someone is playing or using something different, when they are a member of these various Hammond lists, it seems ok to change equipment or do something different! But for someone like Joey it becomes a time to start making comments that are trying to prove some point that was never there to prove.

I look forward to your civilized comments. (big smile)

Keep on playing and turning those wheels until the oil drys up.

With much respect,
Tom Tuson
