I have to agree, demos tell you very little when you're getting down
to the fine details of the sound. You have to see how it responds to
different regions of the keyboard, different drawbar and C/V settings,
etc.
I never liked the overdrive in the CX-3 because I thought it sounded
digital and buzzy, just like the Hammond-Suzuki clones. It's Leslie
sim is quite good, though. I think the VK-8M has a pretty good overdrive.
The first digital overdrive in a clone I was truly impressed with was
the Nord Electro (which also has a great Leslie sim). I think what
helps the sound of the overdrive in the Electro is that the Leslie sim
has a bit of a "dark" sound to it, so the overdrive winds up sounding
warmer.
I remember the overdrive in the B4 being decent but it's been a long
time since I tried it.
