But all this may change in the coming months when this worldwide recession really hits. With musicians not being able to afford new instruments, it may be wise for these companies to offer software upgrades for a price. This may be one of the few ways that music manufacturers can make sales.

Keep laughing. Glad to know you recognize humor (whether it's sarcasm or irony).
I've had my Nord Electro for 5 years now. However, I didn't buy mine right away: the Electro came out in 2001. Again, HOW LONG do you feel entitled to free upgrades and/or updates? You said it yourself, it's still supported. That doesn't mean they are obligated to continue to develop new soundsets for it. The fact that they do is amazing and a testament to how great this company is; that they still trickle some things down is a gift, an un-obligated gift, to its consumers. The fact that they still have a business to run seems to escape the "where's mine now" mentality. Sure, we all want something for nothing, but come on.
I don't know what business you're in, but I suspect that you're not servicing a 7 year old client for free.
As for your snide aside at what you imagine is my gear turnaround, hate the game not the player. Other than my Roadboxes, the newest piece of gear in my arsenal is my Receptor, already two years old. (And it will be around for a long time to come unless it self-destructs.) Since I'm not opening a museum any time soon, I'm a firm believer that if you're not using it, put it in the hands of someone who will. When I was touring full-time, I spun my gigging gear annually; you have to, because it can only take so much abuse before the inevitable breakdowns occur, and the abuse I'm talking about isn't tossing it into your minivan for the weekend gig, it was being tossed and dropped by commercial airlines on a daily basis. Sorry that bugs you. But those pieces of gear that really exceed their limitations and offer a truly musical experience/interface, those instruments tend to stay with me a long time (yes, hard to believe). The rest of it, they're tools nothing more.
Instruments I keep, tools I use and recycle. Learn how to intelligently purchase and recycle your equipment, and you can do it without damaging your bank account. But don't punk me off cuz you haven't figured out how to do it.
If it will help improve your understanding of the big picture, how about comparing it to the Roland XV88, or the EMU Proteus or X line, the Korg Karma, or Yamaha’s AN200, DX200, or “classic” Motif products, all of which were released 2001? Most of those lines have long since disappeared. The Motif line has been replaced twice already, with the ES and the XS. But gee, I have a classic Motif Rack and a classic Motif 8; where’s my new sounds, my OS upgrades? You can’t even BUY updates or new sounds for those instruments, much less support. How’s that for perspective? Does this direct comparison help you understand the situation any better?
Supporting a product is one thing: constantly upgrading it for free is another. Entitlement. You want better Rhodes samples, better piano sounds, organ improvements? Then get a Stage, or something else. But remember, nothing is free, especially in a capitalist economy.

Is the NORD Electro 2 a discontinued model as per your analogy/comparison?
When did this happen? I thought the NORD Electro 2 was a current production
model.
If it's currently being sold and supported, it's hardly a matter of feeling
so "entitled", is it?
Why are you comparing the NORD Electro 2 current production model support to
a Yamaha keyboard that has been out of production for more than TWO DECADES?
Some of us keep our gear for MORE than a month before used sales & serial
returns take place...so we probably just have a different view of product
support than you. :)
Sorry, just had to laugh.

Don't want a Stage (not even a Compact?), but want its capabilities. I know
this is a recurring thread that keeps rearing its ugly head, but exactly WHAT
is it that makes Electro users feel so entitled???
And while we're at it, why doesn't Roland keep giving new stuff for the D50?
And I'm really glad that Yamaha is having such success with their MotifXS,
but what about better pianos for my DX7?
