Well, I tried it.

I found XM1 only sends CC messages for the drawbars and for Leslie speed
change. The other buttons don't send any MIDI messages whatsoever.

The quick way to get drawbars of XM1 working in B4 is to switch XK3
compatibility on in B4 II.
This has a quirk though: the XM1, when switched to change pedal
settings, unfortunately only sends cc-messages forn the 16' and 8'
drawbars.
B4 operates a few drawbars at the same time when moving them - seems B4
doesn't do the translation right for the XM1. No big deal for me since I
don't use pedals anyway, and otherwise Midi-ox could solve it. It works,
I also tried the drawbars for the manuals and pedal without xk3
compatibility switched on and having midi-ox recalculating the cc's
(mail me if you want the .oxm file to replicate my setup)

I also used midi-ox to remap the CC that XM1 sends for leslie speed
change to CC 1. Now I can also change B4 leslie speed using the button
on the XMc1 or a footswitch connected to the XM1.

But could anyone think of a midi-ox trick to still be able to operate
all the pedal drawbars by somehow cheating with for example the lower
manual drawbars (and still be able to independently set lower manual
settings, too!)?

Next challenge is to merge the XM1's midi out to my keyboard's midi out
(now using a pc with multiple midi interfaces and having midi-ox merge
the streams, but my laptop has only one midi in port and I don't intend
to buy another interface soon). Seems my old Anatek Pocketmerge has been
stolen from my gigging case. Bummer...
