I agree. He was presenting his heros to the general public and giving it a good energy. I feel he had to do something like that otherwise people would be somewhat bemused at who the players were and what it was all about. Someone else commented that Doug Riley was a standout.... absolutely. It was the first I'd heard of him and when a Canadian trumpet player came to our town (Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) and sat in on a hammond gig and asked if I'd heard of Doug Riley I was able to say "funny you should ask but.....etc etc" I think that since that sort of hammond playing remains on the outer fringes of music, Paul Schaffer did it a great service.

Okay.? I'm listening to it again.? Let me see how much he talks over it.? I never noticed it before, but I'll give it another listen.
Okay, he introduces each player.? During Dr. Lonnie Smith, he says "go doctor a couple times" and adds "go again" at the end of the first 12 bar solo. Then he thanks him and says the name of the next player.? With Doug Riley, he says "Go again". He thanks Doug and introduces Joey. He says nothing during Joey's solo.? Then Thanks Joey.? They play more and then he thanks everyone at the end.? Yes at the end after all the solo's just before they stop he's shouting out thanks.?But it didnt keep me from hearing what each of those great players played.
Maybe I'm not as much of a purist, but I could hear what each player played, I loved it and it was exciting.?
