I take an SM57 and mic it from the side through the louvre, and aim whatever else they're using for the low end (57, sometimes an AKGD112, or a Shure equivalent) and point it lower right of the speaker, not at the cone center.

Hi Bo,
I think most of the folks around here would say if you
have stereo system to mic into it would be best to
consider using two mics for the horn, and a third mic
for the lower speaker. Or even if you have a mono PA
system, it might still sound better to have dual mics
for the upper and mix them to mono, than to have just
one mic. I have not heard a lot of comments on what
using just one mic sounds like. I am watching for
other replies to your post since I am interested in
the same thing.
