Last night I played a New Years gig with my ProXK3C system. The music was

mostly jazz and blues played at a moderate volume. I played my XK3C through

a Speakeasy AMA, a Leslie 2101, and a Mackie SRM450.

I must honestly state that the sound of the new XK3C is pretty much spot on!

It seems that the higher registers are much smoother than my old XK3. There

used to be a small difference once you got up to the last octave. Now that

difference has disappeared. The high end of the Hammond is now identical to

my B3's.

The improved chorus vibrato really shined through the 2101. I used C2 most

of the night, until we played Oye Como Va (a much jazzier version) where I

used C3. Many audience members commented how great the organ sounded in that

song. The organ also sounded great for the Booker T songs that we covered. I

did not use the internal distortion as I let the Speakeasy do its magic.

Regarding Hammond's build quality, the fit of the XK3C on top of my XLK

lower manual was perfect. I no longer noticed the squeak that I initially

heard. Maybe it was just the new plastic that worked its way out after a few

weeks.

There was plenty of power and the organ was heard quite clearly throughout

this large club. This is primarily due to the power of the AMA.

As a final note, for those who have not performed with the ProXK system, do

yourselves a favor and try one out. The weight of the two keyboards combined

and their tight connection (via four pegs and holes) gives you the feeling

of extreme solidity. Almost like a real B3. So unless you are doing a Keith

Emerson impression you will be quite pleased with the heavy feel of the

instrument. I doubt you will get this feel with a Nord C1.

So I must say that there is a noticeable sonic improvement from the XK3. In

concert with the Speakeasy and real Leslie, it is hard to beat.
