Subject:Interesting XK-3c Tidbit
Hi All,
I was in the process of setting up a MIDI Solutions box for a customer today, and came across an interesting bit of info on the Hammond-Suzuki XK-3c ...
The XK-3c still transmits data in the funky method that Ham-Suz has always used, with all nine upper DBs on CC#80, all nine lower DBs on CC#81, and the two pedal DBs on CC#82. However, it RECEIVES drawbar info in two formats:
- the Ham-Suz method;
- one DB per CC, using the same CC#'s as Voce and NI.
So, while this means that your XK-3c can't control another clonewheel without external help, one can use a MIDI Drawbar Module (MDM), B4d, V5, or Korg CX-3 (with edits to the Global settings) to provide more drawbars to an XK-based system.
CC#12-20 control the DBs on the upper manual
CC#21-29 control the DBs on the lower manual
CC#33 and CC#35 control the pedal drawbars
If you're fortunate enough to own an MDM with the Main/Aux switch, that switch can select upper or lower DBs.
Unfortunately, this does NOT work on the XK-3, only the 'C. :-(
Just thought you'd like to know ...
Regards,
-BW
