Subject:Re: Organ Ignorance in Big Box Stores

Probably it is a decision by big box management that,
although organs are used everywhere, the big sellers
will be the synths. So what happens is people come
into the store and demand that organ sounds come out
of their synth. Then they compromise on the organ
sound from the synth because, "Hey, that's what the
store had."

I agree with what you said here about synths.? I came late to the professional keyboard world.? I was out of music for 30 years before deciding to get back in.? I was not used to Motifs, Fantoms, Tritons etc that had arpeggiators etc.? I actually thought people played those riffs for real.? Never thought they were created with a feature of a workstation.

But thats what people want.? I feel it boarders on cheating, but my friends say its the end result of the music that counts not what you used to produce it.? Maybe I'm just too old fashioned, but I haven't used any of those type features.? I just play what I can.

But people want all those things so they don't really have to master the piano or organ.? Just the software.? Okay, its not JUST the software, they need to know something aobut playing the keyboard, but not nearly as much.

Which brings me to organs.? Organs you have to PLAY, not program.? And there's one of the big differences.? Folks who want to jump to the finished state want workstations.? I hope to master my craft someday.
