Subject:Re: [CWSG]To Record in Stereo or Mono

By way of follow-up, the music is eclectic, from Santana to the Allmans,
from the Grateful Dead to Eric Clapton unplugged, from Pink Floyd to the Rolling
Stones. It is mostly sixties classic rock, with a fair amount of keyboards.
A lot of the stuff relies on acoustic piano, Rhodes and Hammond organ.
There is very little analog synth stuff. (By way of exception, we just recorded
Comfortably Numb and I laid down orchestra strings, oboe and a synth pad to
start). In terms of my reference to being in hobby bands, the recordings are
supposed to be professional enough to use as demos for whatever purpose.
The main focus of my question was stereo versus mono in terms of recording
directly through the board. The Leslie issue, although important, was a side
issue. My one band is not using a studio because our guitar guy has a high end
free-standing Yamaha recording DAW and knows how to use it. The second band
is going for something more professional and will be working with a
professional engineer. Quite frankly, the rough mix of my band doing it on the cheap
is pretty good IMHO and very professional. Could it be better? Probably.
