Subject:Onstage Platform stands (was Has anyone tried the Quik-Lok M-91 Keyboard Stand?

The Onstage platform stands are very stable despite any misgivings
you might have. Their main weakness are 1)the hinged leg braces which
after you lean over a few times to whack them into braced position
stay where they're supposed to and 2)getting the horizontal
positioning of the platform locked in just right (I marked the
runners on mine). Right out of the box to play, I'd say they need a
little breaking in to get 'em tightened up.

I mostly play a dual keyboard version of these now (there's an
optional 2nd tier with the Onstage brand) and not had any problems,
although the stand will move if I shake it hard - but not enough to
feel like it's going to fall. That's about three years now for these
stands (I have two standard platforms plus one with the double
tiers). I think there's some pics in the photo section here or at the
Electro group. I'd say have your guy tighten up the hinged braces or
put locking wingnuts on the hinges.

Of course everyone's playing style is different, so YMMV. I can see
how a heavy smear could feel like your board is coming down,
especially if the hinges weren't tight. There's a lot of guys using
these stands far as I know - which doesn't make you 'wrong.' :) Wj
